The Moment of Truth — Are You Actually Ready?
You've completed 11 levels. You understand price action, indicators, risk management, psychology, trading systems, backtesting, and macro analysis. The question now isn't "do I know enough?" — it's "can I execute consistently with real money on the line?"
This lesson is your final pre-launch checklist. Go through it honestly. Every box must be checked before you fund a live account. No shortcuts. No "I'll figure it out as I go." The traders who skip this step are the ones who blow their accounts in the first month.
The 7-Point Go-Live Checklist
| # | Checkpoint | Requirement | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Written trading plan | Complete one-page system with entries, exits, risk rules | ☐ |
| 2 | Backtested system | 100+ trades, profit factor above 1.5, max DD under 20% | ☐ |
| 3 | Forward tested on demo | 30-50 trades, results within 15% of backtest | ☐ |
| 4 | Trading journal active | Logging every trade with data, reasoning, emotion, compliance | ☐ |
| 5 | Risk rules established | 1% per trade, 3% daily max, 5% weekly max — non-negotiable | ☐ |
| 6 | Broker selected and tested | Regulated broker, competitive spreads, tested with demo | ☐ |
| 7 | Money you can afford to lose | Starting capital is truly disposable — not rent, not savings, not borrowed | ☐ |
If ANY box is unchecked — STOP. Go back and complete it. There is zero rush. The market will be there tomorrow, next week, and next year.
Your First Week Live — The Protocol
Day 1-3: Observation Mode
- Fund your account but don't trade yet
- Watch the market through your system's lens
- Note setups that appear — but don't execute
- Confirm your platform, charting, and order types work as expected
Day 4-5: Micro-Position Mode
- Take your first 1-3 trades at 0.25% risk (quarter of your normal size)
- Focus entirely on execution quality, not P&L
- Did you follow every rule? Did you feel in control?
- Journal each trade in detail
Week 2-4: Gradual Scale
- If Week 1 went well: increase to 0.5% risk
- After 20+ trades with 90%+ compliance: move to 1% risk
- If at any point compliance drops below 80%: go back to micro-size
What to Expect in Your First Month
| Expectation | Reality |
|---|---|
| "I'll be profitable from Day 1" | Most traders are flat or slightly negative in Month 1 — that's normal and acceptable |
| "Real money feels like demo" | Real money triggers emotions you never felt on demo. Expect it. Manage it. |
| "I'll take 20+ trades per week" | Quality systems produce 3-8 trades per week. Patience is the skill now. |
| "My win rate will match my backtest" | Expect 5-15% lower win rate in live vs backtest. Execution gap is real. |
| "I shouldn't have any losing streaks" | A 50% win rate system will have 5-7 trade losing streaks. It's math, not failure. |
The Account Sizing Table
Start smaller than you think you should. Seriously.
| Situation | Recommended Starting Account | Risk Per Trade (1%) |
|---|---|---|
| Complete beginner going live | $200-500 | $2-5 per trade |
| Completed demo with good results | $500-2,000 | $5-20 per trade |
| Experienced demo + positive backtest | $2,000-5,000 | $20-50 per trade |
| Profitable for 3+ months | Scale up gradually | Never jump more than 2x at once |
Quick Recap
- Complete the 7-point go-live checklist before funding your account — all boxes must be checked
- Your first week: observe first, then trade at 0.25% risk
- Expect lower performance than demo/backtest in Month 1 — that's normal
- Start with the smallest account you can — scale up only after proving consistency
- Focus on execution quality over P&L for the first 30 days
- If compliance drops below 80%, reduce position size immediately
🎯 Your Action Step
Print the 7-point checklist and go through it honestly. For each unchecked box, write down exactly what you need to do to complete it. Give yourself a realistic deadline (not "tomorrow" — but also not "someday"). When all 7 boxes are checked with integrity, you're ready. Not before.
